The best Steel Fighters upgrade is the smallest documented purchase that solves the current robot’s repeated failure. Update 1 officially added Upgrades and an Index, while the core description already connects Junkyard Scrap with strengthening robots. Current community guides also report matching-set, Index-tier, Star, and Overworld layers, but exact effects and costs must be read in the live client.
Do not merge every strength system into one number. Record each layer separately, choose a target floor or task, buy one improvement, and repeat the same test.
Upgrade layer index
Unknown layers should not block useful robot upgrades. They should remain separate until their current panels make the relationship clear.
Diagnose the bottleneck
Run a reachable Arena floor at least twice with the same robot, Title, and server conditions. If the robot cannot finish before recovery or defeat, decide whether the repeated issue is damage, survival, recovery, or an incomplete build. Menu values matter only when they explain that observed failure.
If one part is visibly weak, compare a replacement before purchasing broad upgrades. If the complete robot is sound but underpowered, direct Scrap or the named currency into that fighter. If the account is blocked by an Index or world requirement, a permanent layer may be better than another local stat purchase.
Spend on one main robot
Early resources produce clearer results when concentrated. Record the main robot’s six parts, level, current upgrades, permanent benefits, and equipped Title. Buy one step and capture the after state. Then repeat the benchmark.
If the floor becomes reliable, keep the change and record the solved problem. If the result is unchanged, do not automatically repeat the same upgrade. A different layer may be limiting the build, or the apparent failure may come from a boss, recovery, or mode rule.
Spare robots can still support the Index, Fusion, or specialized modes. They do not need equal investment until they have a documented job.
Compare upgrades fairly
Hold the floor, robot, six parts, Title, friend state, Rebirth, Index, passes, and temporary server effects stable. Compare several runs, not one unusually fast clear. Record survival and recovery as well as clear time.
When the interface previews a stat increase, verify the actual result after purchase. A displayed boost can apply to one robot, one mode, all robots, or a later calculation layer. Use the wording shown by the game and avoid turning an ambiguous “boost” into a universal multiplier.
Plan around the Engineer title
Community-corroborated title data lists Engineer after 500 robot upgrades with +18% Arena Damage. Let the counter grow through useful improvements. Buying meaningless actions solely to reach 500 can waste the same resources needed for Arena and Rebirth recovery.
Check whether every click, level, robot, or specific upgrade category advances the counter. Record the progress before and after one action. If it does not move, stop and inspect the requirement rather than repeating the purchase.
Protect upgrades around Rebirth
Before Rebirth, read the current keep/reset panel. Community screenshots report retained robots and levels in an early reset, but they do not establish every upgrade layer. Index benefits, Overworld trees, Stars, event upgrades, and temporary modifiers may follow different rules.
If the panel says a layer resets, compare the value of buying it now with preserving the resource or converting it into something retained. If the panel is silent, do not assume. The Rebirth Guide provides the full pre-confirmation record.
Upgrade decision sequence
- Name the floor, boss, mode, or resource task that is failing.
- Record the complete current robot and account modifiers.
- Identify the smallest current upgrade that addresses the failure.
- Read the affected scope, cost, cap, prerequisite, and reset behavior.
- Buy once and save the resulting state.
- Repeat the same test under stable conditions.
- Keep, pause, or change layers based on the result.
Common upgrade mistakes
- Buying every visible button instead of solving one bottleneck.
- Spreading Scrap across robots with no current job.
- Comparing builds after changing parts, Titles, and permanent upgrades together.
- Treating community-reported
+10% Perfect, Star values, or tier rewards as official without the current UI. - Assuming an Index or Overworld benefit applies to all robots or survives Rebirth.
- Grinding Engineer with wasteful actions that do not improve the account.
Use Cash and Scrap for the earning route, Robot Builds for the complete test sheet, and Arena for the benchmark.
Evidence boundary
Upgrades, Index, robot mixing, Junkyard Scrap, and Rebirth are official feature categories. Complete costs, caps, stat effects, Perfect, Stars, Overworld upgrades, permanence, and interaction order still require current-client verification. This page deliberately leaves those values unset rather than guessing.
